Robinhood Chain Hits $100 Billion in 3.5 Months and Now Outtrades Base
Key Takeaways
- Defillama shows Robinhood Chain’s all-time DEX volume at $111.97B, including $55.99B in September alone.
- Its 30-day DEX volume of $38.62B tops Base’s $30.46B and is nearly 7x Arbitrum One’s $5.65B.
- Robinhood’s Q3 results, due in late October, will be the first to cover a full quarter of mainnet trading.
From Testnet to $100 Billion in a Single Summer
The milestone was flagged earlier today via Defillama’s DEX dashboard, which put Robinhood Chain’s cumulative decentralized exchange (DEX) volume at roughly $111.97 billion, with about $1.17 billion changing hands in the last 24 hours alone.
The network has moved fast, given Robinhood opened a public testnet as recently as February and only switched on its mainnet on July 1.
The monthly breakdown shows where the surge came from and Defillama data shows about $15.31 billion in July and $19.37 billion in August. Volume then exploded to $55.99 billion in September, nearly three times August’s total. October has added roughly $14.25 billion through the first two weeks.
Outpacing Base and Arbitrum One
Over the past 30 days, Robinhood Chain processed about $38.62 billion in DEX volume, compared with $30.46 billion on Base and $5.65 billion on Arbitrum One. Solana still leads by a wide margin at $71.46 billion, but few expected a 3.5-month-old network to pass Coinbase’s flagship L2 this quickly.
Most of that activity runs through Uniswap, with the decentralized exchange’s V3 offering accounting for about $46.94 billion of the chain’s all-time volume and Uniswap V4 for another $36.35 billion, roughly three-quarters of the total combined. Trading bot GMGN comes next with about $6.53 billion.
The presence of a memecoin trading bot that high on the list is telling and a recent analysis found that more than 80% of cumulative DEX volume through late July was memecoin speculation rather than the tokenized stocks Robinhood built the chain to carry.
Other metrics have grown alongside the trading as Robinhood Chain’s total value locked (TVL) sits at about $1.06 billion.
Lastly, a Market Periodical breakdown puts its stablecoin market cap above $1 billion, its real-world asset holdings above $324 million and its total fees above $46 million. Under its Arbitrum license, the chain sends 10% of protocol net revenue back to the Arbitrum ecosystem. Of that, 8% goes to the Arbitrumdao treasury and 2% to the Arbitrum Developer Guild.
The Catch Robinhood Investors Will Watch
Some of September’s surge came with a subsidy as Robinhood covered gas costs for qualifying swaps made through Robinhood Wallet under an offer that ran until 11:59 p.m. EST on Sept. 29. October’s pace has cooled since that offer ended and the chain is averaging roughly $1.1 billion a day this month, versus about $1.87 billion a day in September.
That slowdown will matter for Robinhood’s stock, especially since HOOD shares recently traded near $109.70, about 14% below their September high, while analysts’ average price target sits around $130. The chain is one part of a wider crypto push that also saw Robinhood put $25 million into bitcoin last week.
The next real test arrives in late October and Robinhood’s third-quarter results will be the first to cover a full quarter of mainnet operation, giving investors their first look at how much of that $100 billion turns into revenue.
