If you’re a fan of made up holidays, today’s a day worth celebrating. June 5 is officially National Donut Day — something everyone can get behind — which means you can enjoy free or discounted donuts at restaurants and retailers across the nation.
The holiday was created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served up donuts and other treats to soldiers during World War I. It’s celebrated annually on the first Friday in June.

Dunkin’
Dunkin’ customers can enjoy a free donut with the purchase of any beverage for National Donut Day for the 16th year in a row.
Krispy Kreme
It wouldn’t be Donut Day without an offer from Krispy Kreme. Customers can get a free donut of their choice in stores on June 5 (with select specialty and limited-time donuts excluded). No purchase necessary. The offer is limited to one donut per person, so don’t be greedy! Krispy Kreme is also offering $2 Original Glazed Dozens when customers purchase any regularly priced dozen.

7-Eleven 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members can score classic glazed donuts for just 50 cents a pop at participating 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes stores nationwide. Grab as many as you want — there’s no limit.
Shipley Donuts
Customers can enjoy a free Shipley Donut Signature Glazed Donut with any purchase not just on June 5, but every Friday in June.
Voodoo Doughnut
When you sign up for the Voodoo Doughnut Fan Club, you can redeem a free donut on National Donut Day. Note that the offer is not available at Universal CityWalk or airport locations.
Tim Hortons
Tim Hortons U.S. locations are giving out free donuts with the purchase of any beverage through June 7. Customers can redeem the offer once every day through June 7 with the Tims app.
Parlor Doughnuts
Parlor Doughnuts is celebrating National Donut Day by giving customers free French Toast Layered Donuts, topped with maple glaze, cinnamon sugar, and an icing drizzle, with any in-store purchase at participating locations on June 5. The offer is only valid while supplies last, so go sooner rather than later.
Sheetz
Customers can score one free donut with any food or beverage purchase of $5 or more at Sheetz from June 5 through June 9. The offer can be redeemed only once in the Sheetz app, while supplies last.
